Female Wholesale Operator Caught Stealing Electricity

As JPS continues its aggressive fight against electricity theft, the energy provider is discovering several business operators, using meter bypasses and other forms of tampering to steal electricity. Just this Friday June 7, a female operator of a wholesale enterprise on Anderson Road in Kingston, was arrested for the illegal abstraction of electricity. She is scheduled for a Court appearance on Monday June 17.
Last week Tuesday and Thursday (June 4 and 6), another five business operators in the Corporate Area were arrested for the illegal abstraction of electricity. They were operating in the Windward Road, Birdsucker Lane and Mannings Hill Road areas. Also on Thursday June 4, In St. Catherine, 4 business persons were arrested for the same crime – 2 farm operators and 2 bar operators in the Portmore area.

TAJ Revises TRN Requirements

As a result of the revised TRN requirements, where a certified photograph is submitted along with an application, it must be accompanied by a Declaration for Certifying Official form, completed by the certifying official, such as a Justice of the Peace (JP), Minister of Religion, Attorney-at-law, School Principal, Member of Parliament, Senior Civil Servant, Senior Police Officer or Medical Doctor. The declaration form is available at tax offices and on TAJ’s website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. In the instance where photos are signed by Justices of the Peace (JP), they are reminded that they must quote their assigned JP number.

CARILEC CEO Conference Being Held In Jamaica

CARILEC, the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation, opened its CEO Conference with Communications Symposium, last night May 26, at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston. CARILEC is an association of electric utilities, suppliers, manufacturers and other stakeholders operating in the electricity industry in the Caribbean. The local host utility of the Conference is JPS.
The Conference is being held under the theme, “Trust Leadership – Strengthening our Commitment Unleashing our Potential”. Declaring the Conference open, Minister of State in the Ministry of Energy, Hon. Julian Robinson, noted that the conference is timely. Last year, he said, Jamaica spent 15% of GDP on the importation of oil. He appealed to participants to use the conference to generate solution oriented ideas and strategies to bring relief to the challenges that many island states face.
