“Conceived in your womb, like a flower I bloom, how you do what you do, you are a super woman!” These are the opening lines to OMI’s newest single ‘My Old Lady’, which he dedicates to his own mother, Rachel Pasley and all mothers’ around the world. OMI was raised by his mother, who became a single parent after losing his father, role model and musical inspiration, to emphysema when he was only nine years old.

A lyrical prowess and rising star in his own right, OMI reminisced about his childhood experience noting fond memories with the “old lady in his life”. “What can I say, after my father died she was my only inspiration, we were very close and being the wash belly (youngest) of four children, my fondest memories were with her, her caring hands when I was sick, her patience and how she fed and clothed us with the little she had, she will always be my old lady,” he said.

Hundreds of children across Kingston & St. Andrew are in for a fun-filled, humorous adventure as they learn to fish, go crab hunting, swim, make a kite, and eat mangoes with Amanda Simpson and the crew. They will experience many of the joys and tears of an unforgettable summer in the minutes it takes to read excerpts from No Boy like Amanda. The novel, Hope Barnett’s debut masterpiece, has been selected by the Jamaica Reading Association (JRA) and First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union (FHCCU) as the official book for their National Reading Week 2013 activities.

Set in rural Jamaica, in a fictional north coast town, No Boy like Amanda tells the story of Amanda, a young girl in a loving family with four boys and meagre resources. She tries very hard to fit in with her brothers, who always seem to be having a lot of fun while excluding her.  But Amanda is not a ‘tom boy’. She does not take naturally to the games and other activities, and so her involvement usually ends in disaster.

Dolphin Cove Ltd., Dunn’s River Videos Ltd and the Florida Caribbean Association recently partnered to sponsor President Nadine Brown of the Ocho Rios Craft Market Association and Maudiline Gloria Wright, Public Officer of the Craft Traders Association to attend the Sea Trade Conference in Miami from March 11 – 15.

Ms. Michelle Paige, President of FCCA, hosted them at the Grand Gala where they were able to meet with cruise executives at the annual event.
