The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) awarded three hotels the Best Use of Energy Award, at the recently held Annual General Meeting of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA).  The award, which is conferred annually by the utility is designed to encourage the efficient use of electrical energy supply.

The “Best Use of Energy” Award is presented to the hotels that are able to generate growth, over the past year, through high occupancy levels, while using energy efficiently.

The award recognizes 3 categories: Small Hotels (under 100 rooms), Large Hotels (over 100) and the Most Improved Overall.  The 2011 JPS Best Use of Energy Award, for hotels under 100 rooms, went to Club Ambiance, while for hotels with over 100 rooms, Sandals Grande Riviera emerged the winner.  The most improved hotel, for 2011, was the Gran Bahia Principe.

This is one of several avenues through which the electric utility promotes the well-being and productivity of the local hotel sector.

The event was also addressed by keynote speaker, JPS President and CEO, Kelly Tomblin, who shared on the way forward for the Company, while emphasizing that JPS is always ready to partner in Jamaica's development.
